David Silva Recalls Coming Close to Joining Barcelona in 2008
Former Spain midfielder David Silva, who has retired from professional football and is planning a return for a charity match in Hong Kong, recently spoke about his career on Mario Suárez's podcast. The Canary Islands native revealed that he was very close to signing for Barcelona back in 2008.
"In 2008, Txiki Begiristain]called me when we won the Euros with the national team. At the time, he was at Barcelona. But back then, Valencia didn't sell players. Then they ran into financial trouble and they sold me and Guaje Villa," Silva stated.
Reflecting on his next steps, he added: "The best decision was to move to Manchester City; I spent ten amazing years there, and people treated me incredibly well".
