Real Madrid Planning Defensive Overhaul as Antonio Rudiger Linked with Chelsea Return
Real Madrid are preparing for a major defensive restructuring ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Following the arrivals of Dean Huijsen in 2025 and Ibrahima Konate in 2026, alongside plans to bring back academy product Jacobo Ramon from Como, 33-year-old Antonio Rudiger is widely expected to depart. Although the German center-back retains a vital leadership role under Jose Mourinho and has featured in six matches, his contract is set to expire next June.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are considering a move to bring Rudiger back to Stamford Bridge, where he previously starred from 2017 to 2022. The London club is eager to add experience to a young defensive core, viewing the German international as a Thiago Silva-like figure who can provide immediate leadership. The potential free transfer is also backed by Xabi Alonso, who managed the defender in Madrid last season.
