Premier League's Creative Leaders: Doku and Cherki Set the Pace as Madueke Creates Without Assists

Архитекторы атак АПЛ: Доку и Шерки задают темп, а Мадуэке создает больше всех моментов без ассистов

The creative landscape of the 2026/27 Premier League reveals an interesting contrast between players who consistently manufacture goalscoring opportunities and those who manage to turn them into tangible results. An analysis of 256 players who have reached the minimum threshold of 240 minutes highlights the competition's leading playmakers, as well as several intriguing cases where creative output and end product do not quite match.

The league median for key passes stands at 0.88, while the median for assists is 0.0. This suggests that creating opportunities is considerably more common than directly contributing to goals. Many players participate in building attacking moves, but relatively few consistently turn that involvement into assists.

Doku and Cherki: Manchester City's Creative Engines

Manchester City dominate the top of the creativity rankings, with Jérémy Doku and Rayan Cherki occupying the first two positions in combined key passes and assists. Doku leads the entire ranking with an impressive 3.53 key passes per 90 minutes, complemented by 0.29 assists. His combined figure reaches 3.82.

Cherki follows closely with 3.41 key passes and 0.38 assists per 90 minutes, producing a combined score of 3.79. Although he trails Doku in the overall ranking, Cherki has the higher assist figure, demonstrating his ability to turn creative involvement into direct contributions to goals.

Both players have produced remarkable numbers despite relatively limited playing time. Doku has featured for 306 minutes, while Cherki has accumulated 475. Their figures underline the intensity of their attacking involvement, although a longer run of matches will provide a clearer indication of how sustainable these rates are.

Madueke, Wirtz and Foden: Individual Creativity Meets End Product

Arsenal's Noni Madueke occupies third place and actually leads the entire dataset in key passes. His figure of 3.63 per 90 minutes is the highest among all 256 players. However, he has yet to register an assist. With 248 minutes played, Madueke has demonstrated an outstanding ability to create opportunities, but that creativity has not translated into recorded assists.

Liverpool's Florian Wirtz sits fourth with 3.16 key passes and 0.29 assists, giving him a combined figure of 3.45. His numbers reflect an important creative contribution, with the German midfielder regularly involved in constructing attacking moves and finding teammates in dangerous positions.

Manchester City's Phil Foden completes the top five. He averages 2.81 key passes and 0.51 assists, producing a combined figure of 3.32. Among the leading five players, Foden has the highest assist rate, highlighting his ability to combine creative involvement with direct contributions to goals.

Gakpo and Gross: Consistent Creative Contributions

Liverpool's Cody Gakpo occupies seventh place with 2.54 key passes and 0.59 assists per 90 minutes. His combined figure of 3.13 is supported by the highest assist rate among the top ten players. Gakpo's numbers underline his ability to contribute directly to goals while remaining involved in the creative side of Liverpool's attacking play.

Brighton's Pascal Gross ranks eighth with 2.62 key passes and 0.46 assists, producing a combined score of 3.08. His 791 minutes are the highest total among the top ten, making his numbers particularly interesting over a longer period of playing time.

Everton's Jack Grealish and Tottenham's Savinho complete the top ten. Grealish records 3.01 key passes without an assist, while Savinho produces 2.99 key passes, also without registering a direct assist. Both remain highly active in creating opportunities despite the absence of corresponding assist numbers.

The Unlucky Creators: When Teammates Fail to Convert Chances

Some of the most interesting cases in the dataset involve players whose key-pass numbers significantly exceed their assist totals. These footballers regularly create attacking opportunities, but their efforts have not yet produced a comparable number of direct goal contributions.

Noni Madueke of Arsenal is the clearest example. He leads the entire dataset with 3.63 key passes per 90 minutes but has no assists. His creative output is exceptional, making the absence of a recorded assist particularly striking.

Marcus Rashford of Manchester United also features prominently in this category. He averages 3.29 key passes per 90 minutes but has yet to register an assist. His numbers suggest substantial creative involvement, even though it has not translated into direct goal contributions.

Jérémy Doku of Manchester City completes this group. His 3.53 key passes per 90 minutes are accompanied by just 0.29 assists. Despite leading the overall combined ranking, the difference between his creative output and assist production remains noticeable.

Efficient Players: Fewer Key Passes, Proportionally More Assists

A different statistical profile emerges among Jannik Schuster of Brentford, José María Andrés Baixauli of Brighton and M. Lacroix of Chelsea. All three have identical figures for key passes and assists.

Schuster records 0.30 key passes and 0.30 assists, giving him a mathematically correct combined figure of 0.60. Andrés Baixauli registers 0.22 in both categories, producing a total of 0.44. Lacroix records 0.14 key passes and 0.14 assists, for a combined figure of 0.28.

The equal values in both categories make these players interesting statistical cases. However, their overall creative output remains considerably lower than that of the leading playmakers. Their distinction lies in the relationship between key passes and assists rather than in their absolute contribution to attacking play.
