Gareth Southgate Rules Out Premier League Return as Priorities Shift Beyond Football

Former England manager Sir Gareth Southgate has closed the door on a potential return to Premier League management, admitting that his drive and outlook on the sport have evolved significantly since stepping down after Euro 2024.

Southgate reflected that by the end of his decade-long spell with the national team, he no longer enjoyed victories, with his self-worth having depended entirely on matchday results for 37 years. Over the past 18 months, he has embraced life outside the touchline—exploring business ventures, mentoring young coaches, and studying leadership. With his top-flight club management limited to a three-year spell at Middlesbrough (2006–2009), Southgate has firmly ruled out taking a Premier League dugout role, leaving international football as the only plausible avenue should he ever decide to coach again.
